Rise Against
Long Forgotten Songs: B-Sides & Covers 2000-2013
(Interscope)

The first half of Rise Against’s career is my personal favorite; records like The Unraveling and Siren Song for the Counter Culture are punk rock gems. And that’s probably one of the reasons Long Forgotten Songs hits home so much with me – a lot of these tracks have that older feel of the band. Ten of the songs are covers, and take on such legends as Black Flag, Bob Dylan, Minor Threat, Nirvana, and more. Of them, the best would have to be “Blind” (the spot on Face To Face cover), “Ballad of Hollis Brown” (Bob Dylan cover, and also one of the top three tracks of the collection), “Boy’s No Good” (the fast cover of Lifetime), and “Any Way You Want It” (the classic cover of Journey). The rest of the tracks (another sixteen of them), are composed of b-sides and rarities. There are some amazing songs here, too; like, “I can’t believe these didn’t make the cut” kind of songs. Some favorites include “Death Blossoms”, “Elective Amnesia”, “Grammatizator”, “Generation Lost”, “Dirt & Roses”, “Give It All”….if I continue, I could end up naming the majority of tracks here. Long Forgotten Songs is a must have for any fan, and a fuckin’ fantastic collection.
